PI: Leadership for Life ProgrammE
“We cannot always build the future for out youth, but we can build our youth for the future” - Franklin D. Roosevelt
In South Africa, the current education system (basic and further) has not adequately supported young people with the capabilities of resilience in order for them to thrive in society.
So, they struggle with challenges such as poverty, high levels of anxiety and, very often, low self-esteem. This increases the likelihood of risky behavior. While not all youth succumb to their circumstances, it is possible to do more to prepare youth to contend with life challenges, and even to move beyond it.
What is included in the Leadership for Life programme?

The programme is currently offered at 3 levels - Juniors, Ignitee and Live Wires. The programme can be run within the Life Orientation curriculum at schools, as an extra mural activity or a more focused once-off bootcamp style intervention.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME
Internships are key to building experience and developing some critical competencies such as work ethic and working with others. - Project Ignition
Every year, thousands of young people finish their schooling and if they were not one of the lucky ones to get accepted into further education, they feel at a loss of how to proceed. As Project Ignition, at the beginning of each year, we are inundated with young people who having finished matric or dropped out of further education; feel despondent and generally experience a loss of confidence. One major challenge is lack of funding for further studies, and yet finding a job is close to impossible due to lack of work experience. Other challenges include a lack of clarity of what direction to pursue in life. Finally, where young people may know what they want to do, they are a loss as to how to achieve their objectives. For this reason, the Internship Programme was introduced to help young people to address all the challenges identified above.

MONEYWYZE PROGRAMME
Young people have to learn the knowledge, skills, and behaviors needed to make sound financial decisions that support their future well-being. The alternative is them feeling at a disadvantage as they swim against a system they do not always understand, or that does not always have their well-being at heart - Shamilah Wilson
In South Africa, poverty is real. However, low levels of financial literacy and also high levels of debt in particularly impoverished communities remain a concern.
For young people, the lure of consumerism, high indebtedness are all factors that feed into the potential for high risk behavior. Young people often model behaviours they see in family members, particularly around money.
It is therefore, that it is not enough to focus on teaching young people financial literacy. The MoneyWyze Programme was created as a means to build on existing innovative models in communities (such as stokvels) to create an eco system that support young people to learn, to practice positive financial behaviours and to save money for their future well-being.
